The Pterodactyl
The pteradactyl is an remarkable flying reptiles that flew the skies during the dinosaurs period. Their adaptaions for flight, and ecological roles. They are often shown as scary creatures that are always flying above all the dinosaurs, despite that they were not dinosaurs for real but rather a group of flying reptiles.
- The pterodactyl
- Not Dinosaurs.
*They are not really dinosaurs, they flying reptiles but they are classified as the pterosaurs. Anyway they belong to the branch of the reptile family
*"But though pterosaurs lived among dinosaurs—and certainly looked like dinosaurs to the untrained eye—the two groups are not the same."
*late Triassic Period to the end of the Cretaceous Period, when they went extinct along with dinosaurs. Pterosaurs were carnivores, feeding mostly on fish and small animals. Many had hooked claws and sharp teeth that they used to grab their prey.
- Variety in size.
*The pterosaurs was huge, they had a wing span of 20 feet! They were the biggest flying creatures to ever live, the second biggest is Nemicolopterus, they are half the size of a pterosaurs.
*it would have likely had a mass of more than half a tonne and would have stood as tall as a giraffe.
*The wingspan of these reptiles ranged from 2 to 11 metres (6.5 to 36 feet), which makes them the largest known flying animals
- Diets.
*The pterosaurs had a very weird diet depending on which specie they were, most were fish eaters while other pterosaurs actually hunted for other dinosaurs species.
*The teeth of early pterosaurs indicate they fed on crunchy invertebrates like insects, their study shows. Over millions of years of evolution, though, pterosaurs shifted to feeding almost exclusively on meat and fish
*Pterodactyls were carnivorous, or meat-eaters. Several species that lived along the ocean coasts had teeth which were well adapted for fish eating
